The Coat Tender is a safe, non-aggressive carding tool for dog groomers and pet owners, designed to remove loose coat, undercoat, and coat that is at the end of its lifecycle within the hair follicle.

Coat Tender comes in 3 models:
FINE, MEDIUM, COARSE!

Is it a Carding Knife?

Not exactly. Carding knives, in use for decades by professionals, are available for either right-handed or left-handed users and must be held and used at the proper angle to effectively remove the coat. The Coat Tender, designed by world-renowned groomer, Jodi Murphy, is the ultimate carding tool. This patented tool features three different carding blades. These blades are the same type of blades that carding knives are made with. Drawing on years of experience, Jodi has designed these particular blades with her meticulous expertise. The user-friendly design is suitable for all skill levels. Its inline handle makes it ambidextrous, and the preset angle ensures proper technique. The unique design also flexes with the pet’s natural anatomy, enhancing the grooming experience.

What dog breeds can you use Coat Tender on?

Many breeds vary in coat type and coat density. You can visit our comprehensive dog breed pairing guide as a reference. Some coats are smooth/short and lay flat to the skin, such as those of the French Bulldog, Dalmatian, Rottweiler, Pugs, Labs and Pointers among others. The Coarse Coat Tender would work best for these breeds and those with similar coat types. The Coat Tender is not a deshedding rake and is not recommended for heavy double-coated breeds. i.e. German Shepherds, Pomeranians, Huskies etc.

Terriers, Setters, Spaniels, Retrievers, Terriers, wire-coated breeds, and other similar breeds have denser coats. The Medium Coat Tender would work best on these breeds and similar coat types.

The Coarse Coat Tender is suitable for breeds that carry a denser undercoat. It is recommended to start with he coarse Coat Tender, following up with the medium for breeds that carry more undercoat. For best results, professionals are recommended to use all three Coat Tenders models to effectively groom any breed that comes into the Salon.

The Fine Coat Tender can be used to follow up after the Coarse and/or Medium have been used. The Fine also works well to tighten areas i.e. shoulders, top of heads and front of legs of Retrievers, etc.

NOTE: The Coat Tender is a carding knife that may not be suitable for certain Terrier Show coats. Due to the coarse texture of the coat, carding knives, in general, can cause some breakage. Use at your own discretion. Many Terrier handlers will dull their knives before use to ensure no breakage will occur.

Use Medium Coat Tender blade for Terriers, Setters, Spaniels, Pugs, Labrador Retrievers, wire-coated breeds, and other similar breeds have denser coats.

The Coat Tender is made with a high-quality

stainless-steel blade, manufactured in the USA.

Directions

How to Use the Coat Tender?

Comb or brush the coat to separate the hair stands. Hold skin slightly taught with free hand while combing through the body of the pet. Be sure that the blade is engaged within the coat. Always use the Coat Tender following the natural lay of the coat. Feeling resistance is the indication that there is undercoat to be removed. Once the Coat Tender glides through the coat effortlessly, the undercoat has been successfully removed. Following up with the Fine Coat Tender will ensure the undercoat has been removed. Always remove coat that is within the blade for optimal results. Not intended for legs or heads unless it is being used by a professional.
